Workshop Description:

Landscape, Still Life, and Plein Air Figure/Portrait in the Landscape
The true subject of this workshop is light. On this beautiful vacation art workshop to Croatia, we’ll study the magical coastal light of this ancient archipelago on the Adriatic Sea. Full of everything from quaint historic villages to olive groves, remote reefs and islets, we’ll have much to explore as we focus each day on a unique location and subject. We’ll learn how to observe and record the light before us revealing form, color, and emotion by combining direct observation from nature with further study of our newfound subjects using photographic reference back in the studio. Throughout the workshop we’ll practice making small location sketches and color studies before progressing to larger works. This helps us learn to capture the essence of the scene, harnessing the big simple shapes of light and shadow first, and quickly discerning the value relationships of colors. You’ll leave this workshop feeling both inspired and empowered to tackle any subject that comes your way by understanding how to capturing the light!
